When Virus Developed For Acne Medication

When Virus Developed For Acne Medication. A virus that can kill acne caused by bacteria are now being developed by scientists. This is potentially a solution for stubborn acne.

There are different types of acne, one of the most common is acne vulgaris caused by Propionibacterium acnes. These bacteria live under the skin containing hair follicles and sweat glands. Acne vulgaris is often affects adolescents who are experiencing puberty.

The scientists managed to find out the true enemy Pronionibacterium acnes, which is a virus called bacteriophange or phange. In an experiment, the researchers injected the virus into the genetic material of bacteria, until eventually the virus multiplied.

In a study conducted by a team from the University of California at Los Angeles, they observed 11 different types phange virus that can kill acne bacteria. Apparently there is a virus that is quite strong because they have little genetic difference.

"Phange programmed to kill specific bacteria, namely P.ance, not the other bacteria that also live in the skin," said Laura Marinelli, one of the researchers.

With the discovery of the virus that is able to specifically kill the acne bacteria, scientists hope to develop a potent topical acne medication to treat acne.

Phange virus also known to create an enzyme that destroys the cell walls of bacteria acne. The enzyme will also accelerate the healing process of acne.
